He's home!

Sunday morning when we got to the NICU to settle in for our day there, the nurse told us it looked like Eli would be released the next day. We were surprised it happened so quickly! She said he seemed like a different baby overnight because he had started eating so well. So, it was time to go home!

We went over yesterday around 10am and left with him around 2. Not too bad for working at hospital speed (i.e., quite slowly). It was cute to see him in street clothes after hanging out for 5 days in his little hospital-issued t-shirt. We put him in the one preemie outfit I had bought just in case. I was never expecting to actually need it! Even the newborn-sized clothes are much too big on him so we're going to have to get some preemie things pretty quickly.

The first day (well, half-day) was exhausting. I know it's an adjustment, but I just wasn't expecting to be so tired! It felt like as soon as I got him down from one feeding, he was crying again for the next one. He poops like a crazy man, too. I normally don't mind diaper changes but I feel so bad for his sore little pee-pee!

Josh took over around 10pm and I climbed into bed. I slept until 4am before coming back to switch shifts with him and it was the best sleep I have had in months. I guess I needed to be really exhausted. Man, it felt good.

Noah finally got to meet Eli, too. He was intrigued. He smiled a lot and kept asking if Eli came out of my belly.

I hear grunting noises. Better get some milk warming.

Shannon, How exciting and fun! There IS a light at the end of the tunnel. I kept feeling so tired and like it will last forever when Matthew was first home. The first 4 months were a complete blur. Then after that, it kinda just becomes normal and they become their own little cute people. :)
Hang in there!!

what kissable lips he has.. I bet he's going to have a wonderful smile too just like his mommy.

Some advice... don't buy too much preemie stuff. He'll be out of it in no time and it costs twice as much as NB stuff. Britt was early and seemed he wouldn't fit in anything. His grandma bought him some nice preemie outfits that weren't cheap and he wore them about a week and a half. Get some sleeper gowns and in a couple weeks he'll be in all those cute NB outfits.

Oh he seems so small now.. time will go by so fast. Enjoy every second.. including all the poop. : )
