24w

After quite a hiatus, I'm trying to get some umption back in my blogging gumption. Everything has been so crazy with the holidays but it's time to settle back into real life. Now it's January and only 16 weeks to go! That makes it sound so soon... and yet my discomfort makes it seem like a lifetime.

We had a good Christmas. Josh and I stayed home and it was really nice. He gave me a diamond journey necklace and I was pretty surprised! We picked up Noah and left for PA on Saturday. It was nice to see the family. Josh got to go to the Steelers game with Dad and I got to see Jill. Now we're back home for a couple restful days off before starting the grind again on Monday.

Pregnancy-wise, I am in complaining mode. I'm in a huge amount of pain--pain that was previously just discomfort. I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but it feels like my pelvic bone is cracking in half. It hurts to walk, sit, stand, ride in the car, sleep, roll over in bed, walk up the stairs... for a couple days, I found that standing on my head helped. I assume it jolted him out of his position. But suddenly that isn't working anymore and it just aches constantly. I have an appointment on Monday and I am anxious to tell the doctor. I really hope he has some kind of suggestion for me. I can't imagine being more uncomfortable as he gets bigger and the idea that I might be in this kind of pain for the next 16 weeks makes me want to just sleep through the rest of the pregnancy.

In happier news, Eli has been kicking around a lot and this morning Josh finally got to feel him moving. He moves a lot but catching Josh and Eli both awake and in the same place at the right time hasn't been easy. He was all over today, though. He moves the most in the morning and right before I go to sleep at night.

Oh, and over Christmas break, Josh decided he was ready to announce the name. He was planning to play some kind of trick and swore me to secrecy for weeks but I guess he gave it up.

It's been awhile. I'm just lazy lately.

Our anatomy scan is this coming Tuesday. Part of me feels like I can't believe I'm almost halfway done, but the other part feels like it's been forever. I'm so excited to see Little Dude again, especially knowing he has grown so much just since we saw him at 15 weeks.

I've been feeling some rolling around in there... a little here and there when I lie really still, usually at night. This morning when I was lying in bed I felt a little movement, but still nothing really big. I'm excited to feel kicks and other feelings that I'll know for sure aren't just gas.

Still no consensus on names. Thanks for all the suggestions! I like some of them a lot, but for both of us to agree will take some kind of miracle, I think. :)

I'm getting to the point where I really need maternity clothes. I've been wearing the pants for quite awhile but I've been getting away with regular shirts in bigger sizes. But now everything is too short or too tight, and it's getting more and more difficult. I can't believe how much this stuff costs! I've been checking thrift stores, but everything there is so old-fashioned... giant sweaters, flannel shirts, ugly dresses, and frumpy overalls... where are the cute, normal-looking things? Oh yeah. In the store, full-price, and beyond my budget. Dang it.

I took this picture for a friend the other day, so I figured I'd share it with you. I am still feeling mostly fat and frumpy, but it's beginning, I guess. My stomach is sticking out more than my boobs do, and if you knew me before I was pregnant, you'll know that's kind of a big deal.

16w5d - the name game

Since we are now getting in fights over boy names, we are currently accepting all suggestions. Nothing especially sticks out for either of us, and when one of us likes anything even a little, the other says no way. So it's really getting rather frustrating... it'd be nice if Little Dude could have a name!

A few ground rules:
  • Nothing crazy, like Apple.
  • Nothing especially foreign and/or ethnic. I'm not narrow-minded, I just like names that can be pronounced and have fewer than 10 letters and 4 syllables.
  • However, it must have more than one syllable, since our last name has only one.
  • No B names. Again with the last name.
  • Here are some family names you can't pick: John, Patrick, David, Allan, Daniel, Ryan, Matthew, Michael, Edward, Todd, Josiah, Jude, Benjamin, and of course, Joshua or Noah. Or Jonah, after the cat.

My anatomy scan was scheduled for 12/2, but today the OB's office called to say they had to reschedule my appointment. Since they only do them on Tuesdays, they made it a week earlier on the 25th! So only two weeks until we have confirmation that Baby has a penis. I had a sudden feeling of fear recently after purchasing an armful of blue things, but I'm pretty sure the goods couldn't have been mistaken. If that were to happen, I would be in a tailspin, but at least we'd have a name. Ha!

Hats off today to my husband, veteran extraordinaire!

To edit myself from last time... today Josh told me he's decided he's not sold on Eli. I could scream, because I was just getting used to it. He is the pickiest man ever when it comes to names! AAARRGHH!!

In other news, I've completed four months and I'm on to five! Hopefully soon my fat will look more like pregnancy so I don't just look like I've been eating too many french fries. Well, actually...

Nine weeks! Almost to double digits! It seems like everything fun happens after you hit double digits.

So, I've been thinking about fetal nicknames. It seems like most moms have in-utero nicknames for their babies and I want one, too. At first I was thinking it should be some kind of food, because, well, I love food. "Cupcake" was one of my first thoughts and maybe the only one I've liked well enough to keep considering. It'd be nice if it had some kind of meaning. I guess I figured as time went on, something would come up that just fit, but so far that hasn't happened yet. So I thought I'd throw it out to you all and see if anyone has any great suggestions, even if it's just for the sake of interesting discussion. What do you think? What have you heard? What did you use?
